Almost five years have passed since the Government Lands Act was enacted by virtue of Act XVII of 2017, repealing the Land Acquisition (Public Purposes) Ordinance.
Landowners whose property was either expropriated by the Government for the benefit of the public a) by virtue of a Declaration issued in the Government Gazette prior to 25th April 1992, or b) or by occupation by the Government in absence of such a Declaration, are reminded that they have until 25th April 2022 to file a court case for compensation.
The deadline imposed is peremptory and therefore, failure to take action means that the landowner may no longer claim compensation.
